Summer Time

posted Jul 20, 2009 7:08 AM by Corky Garko

Well it seems that summer is in full swing here. The days are hot and nights cool, and there is no more snow left on the Peak.

We just got back from an awesome camping trip to the Sand Dunes, so I'll be posting some pictures shortly. Stay tuned. ;-)

Fun at Water World

Looking to incorporate more video on the web site. So you can consider this little clip me testing that feature.

Obviously this is Cameron and Candace on a ride at Water World. Cameron looks like he's enjoying himself a bit. ;-)

Go USA!

posted Jul 14, 2009 8:50 PM by Corky Garko   [ updated Sep 4, 2009 7:24 AM ]

While I was out hiking Candace took the kids the open house at the Olympic Training Center here in Colorado Springs.

Neat stuff from what I hear, and Cameron got the coolest face painting I ever saw.

Did I mention we're heading to Vancouver  for the 2010 winter Olympics? Yeah Baby! Go USA!

Is it to early to start getting pumped?

Everything Looks Wonderful from the Summit

Bagged my 15th 14er Saturday - Mt. Antero in the Sawatch Range. I drove to the trail head Friday evening after work and slept in the back of the truck with Cutler. We got up at 4:30am and hit the the trail by 5:00.

Awesome day for a hike with near perfect weather. Made the summit and then back down again. Lunch in Buena Vista and home by 4:30pm. I think Candace prefers these kinds of hikes (meaning me coming home at a reasonable time).

Happy Birthday Caitlyn!

posted Jul 8, 2009 6:09 PM by Corky Garko   [ updated Jul 8, 2009 6:25 PM ]

Well, my little girl is now 14 and a freshman in high school. Holy cow - I can hardly believe it. Caitlyn has grown up so much over the last year into an incredible and beautiful young lady. I am so very proud of her.

Having a July birthday usually means that Cait misses out on a birthday party due to vacations, mission trips, or some other event. Well this year we made up for that. Candace and I both took off work and the whole family went to Water World. We ended the day at Caitlyn's favorite Italian restaurant

Paying Homage to our Mountain

posted Jul 4, 2009 4:57 PM by Corky Garko   [ updated Sep 4, 2009 7:21 AM ]

Well, it's become a bit of a tradition for us to hike Pikes Peak sometime around the beginning of July. This year the entire family did it.

We usually take the Crags route (west side of the peak) which is 6.5 miles one way. All the kids made it with a minimal amount of complaining. ;-) It was, however, one tough hike especially for Cameron. But we made it back to camp, grabbed something to eat, and crashed hard.

I am so very proud of those kids - they did great.

Hard Work and Fun

posted Jun 16, 2009 1:12 PM by Corky Garko   [ updated Jun 16, 2009 1:23 PM ]

Well, I mentioned the girls are back from Galveston. From all accounts they had a great time.

There is still a lot of destruction down there due to Hurricane Ike and no shortage of work. They spent a good solid week tearing out moldy drywall and insulation at a number of work sites.

On top of that my "Florida girls" had totally forgotten what 90+ degree temperatures and humidity was like. Although a high point was a trip to the beach in which most everyone got sunburn. That made for one very long ride back to Colorado.

The Girls Are Back!

posted Jun 15, 2009 9:02 AM by Corky Garko

The girls are back from their mission trip and everyone happy!

In the course of a week Cameron went from loving the only-child life to really missing Courtnie and Caitlyn. He was super excited Sunday about their arrival - you would think it was Christmas morning.

There were lots of pictures and stories. I'll try to get some of them posted this week.

To me, they looked older and bigger, and it was only a week.

Technical Difficulties

Looks like there is a problem using the "Next" link at the bottom of the Family News pages.

Unfortunately, the problem is on Google's side and there isn't much I can do about it. So in the mean time I've added a Sitemap link that you can use to reach past posting.

However, the postings are not chronological order but alphabetical. :-\

Hopefully they'll have the link fixed shortly.

Another Day in the Park

posted Jun 12, 2009 1:43 PM by Corky Garko

Ended our weekend by hanging out at Rampart Pak near our house. We set up our little sun shelter which Candace loves to read in (that's her with a blanket in the picture).

Cameron and I threw a football for a while, ran around with Cutler, and then he tried riding his bike on the BMX track. He only wiped out three times. ;-)
